CARR: Backcountry artists open their studios
Hop in, buckle up. First stop, Del Dios, a backcountry suburb nestled between Escondido's city lights and Lake Hodges' edge.
"This is our first annual open studios tour and Christmas sale," said Leslie Wilton, organizer of the event. "Four studios are taking part and will be showing works done in a variety of media, from junk sculptures and yard art, to paintings, to glassware and jewelry, to hand-woven garments ---- all within a few minutes of one another."
Wilton said some of the locations are expected to have live music. At each studio, artists will be demonstrating the techniques used to create their work.
"Some of the artists on the tour are currently showing works at the San Diego Botanic Garden," Wilton said, adding, "This will be a great place to find that really unusual Christmas gift at very reasonable, end-of-year prices."
The free tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 25 through 27 in the Felicita Park/Del Dios area. Look for the yellow "Art Show" signs. Maps will be available at each studio. Find more information and directions at www.zjhunkmetalart.com or by calling 760-745-5956.
