Often, the English and French languages have the same words for the same idea as in these examples with pronunciation differences noted: rose ("roe-z" and "rrohss"), table ("tay-bul" and "ta-bleh"), village ("vill-ay-j" and "vill-ahjz").

In the latter, the root form "aur" refers to "gold" as the hue of the glowing sun in its rising above the eastern horizon.
