Shirke, however, kept his nerves as the point man of the BCCI, logged in hours together with Sushanto Roy, son of Sahara chief Subrata Roy, discussing the nitty-gritty of a host of issues at the Sahara Star hotel in Mumbai.
On Friday, Shirke could afford to spell out his fears he genuinely felt over the last few days while being engaged in virtually unending discussions.
'I'm very happy because it could have been a tragedy of the highest magnitude. We got an IPL team, we build a stadium, we had a naming rights deal [with Sahara], and just when we were getting into the last stages of a three-year effort the whole thing nearly collapsed.
